HAS THE FIRE BRIGADE RECENTLY ATTENDED YOUR PREMISES?

Lift Rescues

Lifts West Sussex Fire Brigade attends over 200 lift rescues each year. In most cases failures of the lift mechanisms can be avoided. Our records show that many of these are repeat calls to the same premises.

What You Should Do!

Where possible there should be properly trained people on site who have access to the approved tools such as lift keys and are able to operate the lift safely to enable the immediate release of people trapped in the lift.

LIFT FAILURES CAN BE MORE THAN JUST A NUISANCE

For the passenger(s) stuck in a lift car, this can be a very distressing experience. If you haven't done so already please have your lift checked by a competent person to try and prevent a reoccurrence of the failure.

Remember!

The LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations require that passenger lifts must be inspected and tested every six months. The Local Authority (Environmental Health) normally enforces these regulations. As a part of an agreement between Environmental Health or, where appropriate, the HSE, West Sussex Fire Brigade will inform the relevant enforcing authority of all lift failures we attend.
