Following the horrific events in New York on
September 11
, West Sussex firefighters are raising money to help the widows and children of those lost and to support those who have been injured.
Thousands of people have lost their lives or are still missing, and many of us can only begin to imagine the devastating effects on so many families all over the world and the enormity of grief that is being experienced as a result of the tragedy.
Of those lost, many were members of the emergency services, dedicated professionals who rushed in to help against the flow of terrified people who were trying to escape to safety. More than 300 of those lost were from the New York and New Jersey Fire Departments.
Following this terrible event, a special account has been set up by the brigade for fund-raising and this will be wired direct to the central fund in New York.
At their Open Day last week, the crew at
Billingshurst
fire station was collecting for the cause and from
Monday 8th October
, Horsham firefighters will be undertaking a week of fundraising, running until
Friday 12th October
.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can forward cheques made payable to WSFB. New York Fire-fighters Relief Fund to Horsham Fire Station, Hurst Road, Horsham, West Sussex, .
