The West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service provides cover from 28 Fire Stations with three types of Staffing.
WHOLE TIME: Which involves 24 hours a day crewing with the support of a Retained section of fire fighters.
DAY CREWING: Which involves the crewing of a fire station by Whole-time fire fighters with the support of Retained between the hours of 08:30-17:00 hrs.
The whole-time fire fighters that have been on duty throughout the day also respond to calls during the night on a retained basis.
RETAINED: Which involves crews living and or working locally to the fire station. The retained fire fighters have a non Fire Brigade occupation and are called to emergency calls using radio/alerter pagers. The Retained fire fighters must be able to get to their stations within 4- minutes of being alerted.
