About Service Workshops

The West Sussex Fire & Rescue Services workshops consist of engineering facilities at Horsham , Haywards Heath , Chichester , and Worthing , along with the central repair depot and administrative centre at Tangmere .

All workshops provide full repair and preventative maintenance support to the Services vehicle fleet, with four satellite depots utilising mobile workshops and providing a 24 hour call-out service and engineering support at major incidents.

Standards

All repairs and maintenance are carried out to at least the standard required by the Department of Transport's vehicle inspectorate both in mechanical requirement and the timescale of inspection frequency.

To achieve this, all engineers and engineering supervisors have undertaken the Department of Transports training course and been successfully assessed for competency.

The week long course, designed for skilled engineers, covered both theoretical and practical aspects and specific training for the specialist test equipment used by the Service.

Quality Issues

Workshops continue to apply the BS ISO 9002 quality management system which has been continually monitored by the internal audit team led by the workshops foreman in his other role of Quality Manager.

The system is also externally assessed by auditors from the National Quality Assurance (NQA).
