Hey can anybody help?? i have been told that at 18 u can\'t become a full time Firefighter only Retained. is this true?? if ya can help can u e-mail me plz. thanks!!

Hi Danny
To join whole-time or Retained you will need to be 18 years of age.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has now completed its intake of wholetime recruit firefighters. We will not be recruiting for wholetime firefighters until approximately April 2006. Further information will be made available on the website nearer to this time.

However, we are recruiting for retained firefighters across the County. If you live and/ or work within four minutes of your local station contact us on (24 hr answerphone) for an information pack. Hope that answers your question Danny.

Well done for a great site. Very informative. We had a chimney fire some time ago. We take the emergency services for granted, until we need them.

I viewed your website for the first time, and was completely shocked to read your information on tea lights.

We along with friends have used them many times all over the house and didn't see the danger at all, in fact we thought as you say, they are in metal containers so they must be safe.

Thank you for that information

As an ex Bognor boy and fireman....I was wondering if any of the other lads on blue or red watch are still kicking....Late fifties early sixties ?Fire station by sea {clarence rd.}Plenty of stories to tell of those days...Good mates all including my brother Ken Who was on red watch then.

Hi there great to be able to read of so many people with fire service connections. I was in the Glasgow Auxiliary Fire Service in the 1960s I wonder if anyone who was in the Brigade at that time remembers the days when we were based at Partick, and the South Fire station in Centre St. March 20th ( correct me if I am wrong) will be the 44th anniversary of the Cheapside St whisky bond fire disaster when 19 men died. Sad but wonderful memories of great men in the greatest Brigade in the world.
